49-year-old ID’d as man fatally struck by train in Tuscaloosa

Authorities have released the name of a man killed when he was hit by a train in Tuscaloosa.

Tuscaloosa police identified the victim as Darnell Williams. He was 49 and lived in Tuscaloosa.

Police received a call at 3:21 p.m. Tuesday from a Norfolk Southern Railway employee reporting that a train was unable to avoid hitting the man, who was walking westbound on the track, said police spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor.

Officers responded to the area of McFarland Boulevard and Dr. Edward Hillard Drive.

Williams was dead on the scene.
